The Pottery Village in Kamionka – crafts, tradition and the Paradise Garden

The Pottery Village in Kamionka near Nidzica is a themed village where traditional trades are recreated and the region’s craft traditions are preserved. The site is run by the NIDA Development Foundation in Nidzica.

The main attraction is the workshops, where visitors can try their hand at the potter’s wheel, sculpt with clay, paint ceramics and glass, make beeswax candles, or create jewellery from amber and belemnite. Some workshops are available throughout the year.

Visitors can also learn about traditional Masurian crafts, see an old barn and forge, visit the “Treasures of the Earth” gallery and, in season, stroll through the Paradise Garden.

Why is it worth visiting?

This is a place where children do not have to simply look at exhibits. They can sculpt, paint or make something themselves and take home their own souvenir.

Adults, meanwhile, can discover a less obvious side of Masuria—not its lakes and sailboats, but its local crafts, traditions and everyday life in times gone by.

Another major advantage is the variety. You can combine a workshop with a short tour, a walk through the garden and lunch at a regional inn.

What will you find there?

Among other things:

a pottery workshop with potter’s wheel demonstrations,
clay sculpting and wheel-throwing workshops,
ceramic painting,
glass-painting workshops,
beeswax candle making,
making jewellery from amber or belemnite,
seasonal Christmas bauble painting and Easter egg decorating,
a Masurian forge,
a traditional barn and old farming equipment,
the “Treasures of the Earth” gallery,
Nature Cinema,
outdoor games,
the “Ptasie Radio” Inn,
Paradise Garden.

Paradise Garden consists of around 30 themed areas and, according to the organizers, is home to approximately 3,000 plant species.

Omulove Tip

If you are interested in workshops, call ahead to find out which activities will be available on the day of your visit.

You can visit the Village spontaneously for a casual walk, but for workshops it is much better to have a confirmed time.

During the season, be sure to visit Paradise Garden as well. And if you get hungry, stay for lunch at the “Ptasie Radio” Inn, which serves traditional Masurian and Prussian dishes prepared, among other things, with produce from its own garden.
