The Omulew River kayaking route is approximately 130 km long and ends where it joins the Narew River in Ostrołęka. For guests of Zacisze, the most important part is its starting point: convenient launch sites are located on Lake Omulew near Wikno and Jabłonka.
The initial section runs through the Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest and wild, sparsely populated areas. The river can be narrow, winding, and partially obstructed by fallen tree trunks. Obstacles may appear overnight as a result of beaver activity.
The entire route takes several days, but local organizers can arrange a shorter, one-day option tailored to the participants' skill level and current conditions.
Why is it worth it?
The Omulew is a good choice for those who prefer peace, forests, and contact with wildlife over a busy route. Many sections have no buildings or crowds of other kayakers.
The starting point can be planned very close to Zacisze, allowing the trip to be easily combined with a stay by the lake.
It is also an interesting route for photographers and wildlife observers, but it requires greater self-reliance than the region's most commercial kayaking trips.
What will you find there?
Along the route, you will find:
a starting point on Lake Omulew near Wikno or Jabłonka, narrow and winding sections of the river, the Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest, the wild grounds of a former military training area, the Małga Nature Reserve farther along the route, fallen trees and possible obstacles created by beavers, short one-day options, the option to continue on a multi-day kayaking trip toward Wielbark and Ostrołęka.
The exact route should be agreed upon with the rental company and adjusted to the current water level.
Omulove tip
Do not set off without arranging the finishing point and return transport. Mobile coverage may be weaker along the wild sections, and obstacles on the river can change after storms, strong winds, and beaver activity.
Bring life jackets, water, a dry bag for your phone and documents, and a downloaded offline map. It is best to arrange a family-friendly option with a local organizer, providing the children's ages and the participants' experience levels.
