Cycling to the Sources of the Łyna River

A trip towards the sources of the Łyna is a great option for those who would like to spend a few hours cycling and discover the wilder side of the area around Zacisze.

The route passes through the area around Napiwoda and continues towards the village of Łyna. It is here, near the village, that a nature reserve protects the headwaters of one of the most important rivers in Warmia and Masuria. The southern section of the Łynostrada trail runs through the Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest and combines paved roads, gravel tracks, and dirt roads.

The reserve itself is best explored on foot. It is worth leaving your bicycle near Łyński Młyn and following the trail through the headwaters area.

Why is it worth it?

This is one of those routes where the goal is not simply to cover a certain distance. Along the way, the scenery, surface, and character of the terrain change—from quiet roads to more secluded forest sections.

The sources of the Łyna are also a good reason to explore part of the Łynostrada—one of the region's most interesting long-distance cycling routes.

What will you find there?

Along the way and near your destination, you will find:

forest and gravel roads,
paved sections,
the Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest,
the village of Napiwoda,
the village of Łyna,
Łyński Młyn,
the Sources of the Łyna River Nature Reserve,
the river's natural valley and headwaters.

The southern section of the Łynostrada is one of the trail's more rugged parts, with natural surfaces, gravel, loose stones, and patches of sand. A gravel, trekking, or mountain bike is therefore the best choice.

Omulove Tip

This is a several-hour trip, so do not set off without water and a downloaded offline map.

There are many forks along the forest sections, and trail markers do not always appear at every junction. A GPX track or Mapy.cz is genuinely useful here.

After reaching the reserve, it is best to leave your bicycles at Łyński Młyn and walk the final section. Cycling through the reserve itself is less convenient, as there may be fallen tree trunks and other natural obstacles on the trails.
