* Mushroom Picking Around Lake Omulew # Mushroom Picking Around Lake Omulew [Attractions and Places](https://omulovezacisze.pl/en/guide/attractions-and-places) The forests around Lake Omulew are a great place for peaceful mushroom picking combined with a walk through the Masurian countryside. The nearby coniferous and mixed forests are home to species characteristic of the region, including porcini mushrooms, bay boletes, chanterelles, birch boletes, slippery jacks, and parasol mushrooms.

The best conditions usually occur after periods of warm, damp weather. It is then worth heading into the forest early in the morning, before more mushroom pickers arrive.

Mushroom picking in Poland's State Forests is generally permitted and free of charge, but there are exceptions. Mushrooms must not be picked in areas where entry is prohibited, nature reserves, national parks, wildlife refuges, or military areas, among others. ![](https://omulovezacisze.pl/components/com_gridbox/assets/images/default-lazy-load.webp) ![Porcini mushroom in the forest by Lake Omulew](https://omulovezacisze.pl/components/com_gridbox/assets/images/default-lazy-load.webp) ![Walk along a forest path while mushroom picking](https://omulovezacisze.pl/components/com_gridbox/assets/images/default-lazy-load.webp) ![Wild mushroom soup](https://omulovezacisze.pl/components/com_gridbox/assets/images/default-lazy-load.webp) Why Is It Worth It? This is one of those activities that perfectly suits the character of Zacisze: there is no need to book anything, rush anywhere, or travel far.

You can head into the forest in the morning, enjoy a leisurely walk, and, with a little luck, return with a basket of mushrooms for lunch.

Even if your harvest is not impressive, a walk through a Masurian forest in autumn is itself a wonderful way to relax and spend time close to nature. What Will You Find There? In the region's forests, you may find, among others:

porcini mushrooms,
bay boletes,
chanterelles,
birch boletes,
slippery jacks,
parasol mushrooms.

Porcini mushrooms grow in coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests. Chanterelles often grow near pine, oak, and beech trees, birch boletes near birches and aspens, while slippery jacks particularly favor areas around pine and larch trees.

Remember, however, that the presence of mushrooms depends on the weather, the season, and the specific part of the forest—no species can be guaranteed. Omulove Tip It is best to go mushroom picking in the morning after several damp, relatively warm days.

Bring a breathable basket instead of a plastic bag, suitable footwear, tick repellent, and a phone with a fully charged battery.

The most important rule is to pick only mushrooms that you can identify with absolute certainty. A mobile app may be helpful, but it should not be the sole basis for determining whether a mushroom is edible. If in doubt, you can have your mushrooms checked free of charge by a mushroom expert or classifier at a sanitary and epidemiological station.
